SME Vehicle Leasing Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a leasing broker and a dealership?

A dealership sells or leases vehicles from its own stock, usually tied to one or a few manufacturers. A broker doesn't hold stock. We work across the whole market of funders and dealer networks to find the right deal for you, then handle the paperwork and process from quote through to delivery. Kinetic is a broker, not a dealership. There's no showroom to visit and no forecourt to browse.

Do I need to come into an office to arrange a lease?

No. All enquiries, quotes, and paperwork are handled remotely by phone, email, or video call. Vehicles are delivered directly to your home or business address, wherever you're based in the UK.

What areas do you cover?

We work with SMEs across East Lothian and Edinburgh, and handle personal and salary sacrifice leasing UK-wide.

What finance products do you offer?

Business Contract Hire, Personal Contract Hire, Van Leasing, Salary Sacrifice Car Schemes, Hire Purchase, and Outright Purchase.

What is salary sacrifice car leasing?

It's a scheme where your employer arranges a leased vehicle for you, and the cost is deducted from your salary before tax and National Insurance. This usually works out cheaper than a personal lease, particularly for electric vehicles. Savings vary depending on your tax band and where in the UK you're based. Is Kinetic regulated?

Yes. We're authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority as an Appointed Representative (FRN 1030160) of Jurni Limited, the Principal Firm (FRN 631448), for credit broking activities. We're also a BVRLA-registered broker.

Can you handle a full fleet for my business, not just a single vehicle?

Yes. We work with SMEs on everything from a single van to a full fleet review, and can manage ongoing renewals as your fleet grows.

Does it cost anything to use a broker like Kinetic?

Yes, we charge a broker fee of £207.50 + VAT. As part of a larger group, we benefit from volume discounts and access to all the main UK funders, so you're often better off than going direct to a single manufacturer or funder. We also receive commission from the funder your agreement is placed with. In line with FCA regulations, we'll disclose the amount of that commission to you.

How long does the process take, from enquiry to delivery?

This varies by vehicle availability and funder, but we'll give you a clear timeline as part of your quote so there are no surprises.

What's the difference between Business Contract Hire and Personal Contract Hire?

Business Contract Hire (BCH) is for limited companies, LLPs, partnerships, and sole traders using the vehicle for business purposes, and has different VAT treatment and tax relief to a personal deal. Personal Contract Hire (PCH) is for individuals leasing in their own name, with fixed monthly payments and no ownership at the end. Which one suits you comes down to how the vehicle will be used and who's paying for it.

What is Outright Purchase, and how does it differ from leasing?

With Outright Purchase, you buy the vehicle rather than paying for its use over a fixed term. It suits businesses that want to own the asset from day one rather than hand it back at the end of an agreement, and the tax treatment differs depending on how your business is structured.

Do you offer electric vehicle leasing?

Yes. We lease electric and hybrid vehicles alongside petrol and diesel, for personal and business customers, including through salary sacrifice.

Is there a mileage limit on leased vehicles?

Yes. Every agreement has an annual mileage allowance set at the start, and going over it means an excess mileage charge when the vehicle goes back. We'll help you set a realistic limit based on how the vehicle will actually be used.

What happens at the end of my lease agreement?

On most agreements, you hand the vehicle back, subject to it meeting fair wear and tear standards and being within its agreed mileage. We'll talk you through the return process well before your contract ends.

Can I end my lease early?

Early termination is usually possible but comes with a charge, since you're ending a fixed-term agreement ahead of schedule. Get in touch and we'll talk you through the cost and options for your specific agreement.

What documents do I need to apply?

For a personal lease, you'll typically need proof of ID, proof of address, and your driving licence details. For a business lease, we'll also need company details and recent business bank statements or accounts, depending on the funder's requirements. We'll confirm exactly what's needed once we know which product and funder is the right fit.
